The Parable of the Ten Virgins

Mt 25: 1-13

Mt 25:1-13

1Then shall the kingdom of heaven be likened unto ten virgins, which took their lamps, and went forth to meet the bridegroom. 2And five of them were foolish, and five were wise. 3For the foolish, when they took their lamps, took no oil with them: 4but the wise took oil in their vessels with their lamps. 5Now while the bridegroom tarried, they all slumbered and slept. 6But at midnight there is a cry, Behold, the bridegroom! Come ye forth to meet him. 7Then all those virgins arose, and trimmed their lamps. 8And the foolish said unto the wise, Give us of your oil; for our lamps are going out. 9But the wise answered, saying, Peradventure there will not be enough for us and you: go ye rather to them that sell, and buy for yourselves. 10And while they went away to buy, the bridegroom came; and they that were ready went in with him to the marriage feast: and the door was shut. 11Afterward come also the other virgins, saying, Lord, Lord, open to us. 12But he answered and said, Verily I say unto you, I know you not. 13Watch therefore, for ye know not the day nor the hour.

What does this parable reveal about the Kingdom of God?

In this parable Jesus explains how the Kingdom of God will arrive on Earth, and that even people theoretically prepared, the children, may not have access because they were inconsequential, forgetting to make daily access to the Spirit of God, in this case symbolized by the oil . As Jesus explains in the beatitudes: "Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the Kingdom of Heaven", that is, we have to be aware that we need daily access to the Holy Spirit of God to enter the Kingdom of God.

Soon after, we see that the bridegroom took a long time to arrive, and unfortunately, nobody knows the day or the time that Jesus will return, but that is not an excuse for not being prepared. And with that delay, all the brides, without exception, fell asleep, that is, the truth is that we are all going to sleep, and sleeping here means two things: really sleeping, as we do every night, and dying. For when Jesus returns, we will all wake up, including those who have already died.

Unfortunately, the children who sleep without the Holy Spirit of God will not have access to the Kingdom and will be left out of the great feast of Jesus (the groom) with all his children (the bride). In order to have access to the Kingdom and be recognized by Jesus and the Father, it is necessary to be filled with the Holy Spirit, and if, at the opportune moment, you are without this access, you will not be recognized by Jesus and will be outside the millenary government that will be established when He returns.
