The Parable of the Lost Coin

Luc 15:8-10

Lucas 15:8-10

8Or what woman having ten pieces of silver, if she loses one piece, doth not light a lamp, and sweep the house, and seek diligently until she finds it? 9And when she hath found it, she calleth together her friends and neighbours, saying, Rejoice with me, for I have found the piece which I had lost. 10Even so, I say unto you, there is joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner that repenteth.

What does this parable reveal about the Kingdom of God?

As already explained in other posts, the parables are a message for the children of God, for those who are part of the Kingdom, and this is a very interesting parable because it talks about the importance of being vigilant and organized with our things and with people around us.

Another important point to emphasize is that Jesus placed all the characters in this parable as women, for a few reasons: to reach the female audience, who spent most of their time at home at the time, to contextualize her position but above all to demonstrate that the Kingdom it is for both men and women.

In the first verse we see that the woman lost one of her coins, and begins to look for it, we must pay attention to the reason why she lost it, and in this search we see that, firstly, the woman was in darkness, because she had to light the lamp to enlighten, that is, he was without the Spirit of God in his heart, which we, as rulers, must access every day. Soon afterwards we see that the place was dirty, because it had to be swept, that is, the reigning ones must keep their hearts clean daily, without hatred, resentment or bitterness, and finally they had to search diligently to find it, that is, it was lost. it was because he did not take the necessary care, and was not vigilant: as rulers we must be vigilant and take very good care of the people who are with us.

Upon finding her, the woman has a party with her friends, just as the angels in heaven do when a son of God, a ruler, is found, cleanses his heart and returns to his purpose, to do what God wants. The fact of repenting does not simply mean remorse for what was done wrong, but changing the route and starting to do it differently, cleaning the heart and accessing the Spirit of God every day to do exactly what God uniquely asks of each one.
